More human than you, man.

What does it mean to be "human," to be a human being? [150 words]

  1. Being a human being does not mean driving a car, or owning lots of things. Being a human has a much deeper meaning than that. Humans know what is right and wrong, they think and act alone without always having to have assistants. The true meaning of being a human being is being able to build relationships around others. Interacting is also important when defining what a human is and how they work. The ability to interact and communicate with others through words is one thing no other species has. Some animals like parrots can repeat words, but they do not know what they are saying. They just speak words they hear. Monkeys are another example, because they can learn sign language to interact with each other and humans. Most other species cannot even do that, so being human is a really cool thing.

  2. I've always thought that being a human is so cool. Anatomically speaking, the body and mind are incredible. As a species we hold so much power (often times too much power) and knowledge; we truly are at the top of the food chain. I believe that humans are meant to be constantly progressing. We are learning and experiencing each day, which means we wake up the next morning a bit wiser than the last. I think the term "being" has some synonymous ties to having purpose. Humans have strong, complex emotions and our ability to communicate or not communicate those emotions sets us apart from any other species. I'm not saying that animals can and cannot communicate feelings, I am saying that our way is the most advanced and efficient.

  3. I believe that humans are creatures developed to adapt to anything. We have our own free spirt and will power, we make ourselves out to be something were totally not. We grow in different size and shapes, we all have different characteristics that make up who we are. We are the most dominant species on earth, we develop our senses based off what our regular life routine consists of and we eat everything.

  4. I think it can be very difficult to define what being a human means. Most people think being a human ( at least a decent human) means admitting when you're wrong and knowing right from wrong. However, many animals are capable of loving their own and also knowing right from wrong. I feel like most people feel they are the superior species over everything else. Some could say being human means adapting to your surroundings and learning new things everyday, but once again, animals are capable of doing the same thing. I do think humans are more advanced. We have created some of the most impressive technology, but owning things does not make us human.

  5. To be a human means having the anatomy of a human with the mental intelligence to maintain a statute above the rest of the animal kingdom. Humans are versatile, they are intelligence, and they are compassionate. We did not rise to power because of strength or speed, but rather by adapting and creating tools to allow us an advantage over the other species on our planet. A human is the most powerful organic object on the Earth. We have conquered and survived in nearly every part of this planet. We have even begun living outside of it. To be human is to be unbeatable. No matter what is thrown at us, human kind has never been in danger of extinction. It is not our body, but our mind that has given us this. A human without his mind cannot be called a living person.

  6. We are all animals in my mind. All of us are homo sapiens. However there are several things that set us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. I think what primarily sets us apart from the apes, monkeys, and gorillas is our ability to choose. That we make choices on a deep and introspective level makes us human. The rest of the planets life is using what I would call the old brain. The lizard brain directs them to make decisions based on a primordial level. There is no right or wrong in their world, just fight or flight and basic needs being met. So what makes us human is our ability to distinguish right from wrong and act accordingly.

  7. Being a human being means being a homosapien. We are mammals, our main purpose is to procreate, adapt, and survive. We are animalistic, we just have gained higher intelligence. Our intelligence allows us to think deeper and clearer than most other animals, and because of that we create complex machines and objects to increase the pleasures in our lives. I believe we are all on the same level of animals as far as souls, spirituality, love, and the pursuit of happiness goes however, we have more complex “worries” in our “human” or “intelligent” lives. Our intelligence has driven us apart from each other. No longer are we a “pack” of our population but rather we are “families.” We are very individual and over the course of human history we have lost our “oneness” and “closeness” we shared with all of mankind resulting in the unhappiness and worry we now share. With intelligence and power comes sadness and despair.

  8. noun: a human being, especially a person as distinguished from an animal. Being human means that you are in human flesh with a functioning brain. Humans are much more advanced in their thinking and creativity than animals but they both express emotion. I suppose that the only thing that separates humans from animals could very well be emotions and their lack of human flesh.

  9. I believe that being a human is having feelings and emotions. Technology and robots do not have any feelings they have programs that already tell them what to do. I think that human bodies are just bodies and the soul is a seperate thing. We can learn and grow and create new technologies and inventions to further our creations and God's. Individuals having feelings is something that cannot be created. Computers and technologies can't have emotions but we can, it is unlike anything else. Humans are amazing and capable for way more than we give credit for. We are incredible specimans and thinking about everything we have become already is quite fascinating and so are feelings. Without feeling wee would not live, life is a feeling process.

  10. I think it means being superior to all other species. Humans develop technology and create tools to help improve our way of life and to make it easier, other species have not even come close to duplicating what we humans have accomplished. Humans do not have spend all working to find food; instead we work all day to make money to spend on food and the other "things" we want.

  11. Being human means being the top predator on Earth. What differs humans from other animals is that humans make decisions that can greatly alter the Earth’s natural processes. Humans can and do take all the resources they want. This overuse of resources is in part because of the self-centered attitude most humans have towards their own needs rather than worrying about the rest of their ecosystem’s needs. Humans are also the most diverse species and can have greatly different cultural ideals. Although I do not believe humans are the smartest specie on Earth I do believe we are the most intellectual (capability to learn and the large capacity to retain all the information). We are the only specie to have a great negative affect towards mother Earth. Is the existence of humans on this planet good or bad for Earth? I would say neither because we have not been present on this planet for enough time to make that conclusion.

  12. To be human means that you have the ability to make decisions and choices, it also means that you have a moral understanding of what is right and wrong. The ability to determine what is right and wrong is what separates us from the animal kingdom. Humans are also known for our ability to adapt and develop. We are the most intelligent life on the entire earth, we can learn and adapt to any circumstance or situation that we are confronted with. Being intelligent and having the ability to make choices is what makes us human.

  13. Being human is a mental state. It is how we as individuals perceive data break it down, analyze, and store it. There are several different things or items that can take on a human like persona. To me human is a living breathing thinker without restraint from instinct. Free will ultimately defines how our individualism is made up. Animals can be caged and looked after, such as in zoo's. Where as humans can be caged and locked up but normally it is for ably against there will. Human is the characteristic of self worth and thinking. It differentiates us from pervasive, animal like instinct. Although I do believe humans can take the characteristics of animals, such as Adolfo Hitler. Human is not artificial intelligence even if the 'program' learns to think.

  14. Being human means having the ability and being capable of making our own choices and decisions. We also have a understanding of what is right and wrong. Humans also have the ability to adapt and develop to changes. Being intelligent and making choices is what makes us human.

  15. Being a human is technically being among the most intelligent species. Being a human should mean living to your fullest potential and taking advantage of every opportunity. Physically, I don't think it means much to be human, you can't choose how you look or how you are. You can choose to do good for other people and live in a satisfying and full life. Being a human means always putting family first, and being there when someone needs you. Things like religion and region can help define what kind of human you are and what your values consist of.

  16. There are multiple parts to being a human. There is having the physical makeup of a human and being anatomically human, and there is being emotionally and mentally a human. A large part of the human experience is being able to make emotional connections with others. Feeling love and compassion is something that makes being a human so great. Having free will and control over our own destiny is a large part of what makes us human. The emotions that we have and what we feel for others gives us a unique way of seeing the world that other lifeforms will not experience. Another thing that makes us human is the knowledge that we will die. This lets us live life to the fullest and try to experience everything we can. Other lifeforms do not have this, so it is a large difference.

  17. To me, being human is conflicting. We are "free" yet must abide by numerous rules, regulations, and laws. We can express emotion and logical thought processing. Being human means being rational, emotional, logical, artistic, among other things. In many ways we are very similar to animals, but our logical thought processes are what make us different

  18. Being human is not something that can be simply described. When describing a human, it can not be confined to one certain definition. Human's are very unique and each on is different in very different days. I believe that having the ability to feel emotion and express kindness make a human being. Human's have the ability to think and express ideas in forms that other things may not be able to. Humans are also able to communicate with others that are like them.

  19. Being human is to be able to feel. We are the superior species. We can rationalize and express emotion and take action. Animals can feel too, but they do not have logical thought processes. We aren't free, we think we are. We are trapped in different cultures and societies that form us into what we are supposed to be. Humans think they have free will and they do, but they rarely express it.

  20. Intelligence, understanding, and, most of all, empathy. Being human means mastering my environment, understanding my surroundings, critical problem solving, and helping those that need help. Our ability to react and respond under pressure also makes us superior. Being human means understanding that we are all in a temporary environment and we all eventually succumb to death.

  21. What does it mean to be human? Well, there is a dictionary definition; "A human being, especially a person as distinguished from an animal or (in science fiction) an alien. We feel emotion, we are intelligent, we have the ability to think of the future and the past longer than most other animals can. We build amazing machine, we invent mind-blowing technology, yet we are still unhappy with what we have, because it is never enough. Our race, the human race, keep pushing the limits on what is possible, then we die. That is what it means to be human.
